Introduced in 1950, the year after I was born, BACTINE is one of those venerable consumer products that, unlike chocolate Flavor Straws and X-Ray Spectacles, has withstood the test of time because it works so well. Its use is limited to superficial injuries (minor cuts, scrapes, burns) of the upper skin layer, but it's surprisingly effective at diminishing pain and preventing infection. And one of its most attractive ancillary attributes is a clean, unique smell that I can't quite put my finger on - perhaps a combination of peppermint, eucalyptus and menthol. Indeed, just removing the cap from the bottle in my medicine cabinet brings back all the cherished childhood memories of the cuts and scrapes I acquired while dressed in my Superman costume. Trying to fly by jumping off the top of the front steps can be injurious. br /br /Nowadays, I find the smell of the medicine so manly and appealing that I'm tempted to use it as an aftershave. One can't go out dressed as Superman smelling like a sissy.

Works like magic. - J. Arena - Williamsburg, VA
Got a cut, scrape, or troublesome boo-boo of any description? This stuff still works as well as it did back in 'ye olden days when TV was still black and white and Nancy Drew was some serious fiction! And the best part is that it works just as well or better than than stuff selling for much, much more money.

Same ingrediant as Viroxyn (Cold Sore Med), but FAR less expensive!!! - Critical Thinker - San Diego, CA, USA
Viroxyn cold sore (lip) treatment (desribed as a near miracle cure) has the exact same effective ingrediant in the exact same proportion as Bactine. But Viroxyn costs an arm and a leg! AND...Bactine adds a pain reliever! So, when you feel a cold sore coming on, soak a cotton ball with Bactine (instead of Viroxyn )and virorously rub on and around your budding cold sore (don't rub so hard as to break the skin). And don't ingest any! Then let that Bactine do its work. Your pain should diminish and your lip sore should heal much faster. And you didn't have to pay over for a one time dose of Viroxyn (a cotton ball's worth). But, check your facts! Look up both Viroxyn and Bactine online and see for yourself! Also, you might want to augment your treatment with a zinc-based cold sore ointment too (I think Bactine may have an ointment like that).
